BESPOKE
Few things that we collect are as personal and treasured as bespoke-crafted jewellery. It is one of the great pleasures and privileges of a jeweller’s art to be allowed to design and create such a one-off work of art for an individual client.
Inspiration from these pieces comes from any number of sources: an object collected on holiday, a child’s first drawing, a lock of hair, a poem or a message. For each person it forms a unique and enduring connection with their commission.
PROCESS
Imagination without bounds...
Philippa will talk through such starting ideas with the client, discussing details like materials and colours of stones, preferred metals and styles, and thereby clarify an initial concept.
She will then provide them with a resultant design from which, through a process of further discussion and amendments, a design is developed that, once approved, can go into production. All of Philippa’s bespoke jewellery is hand made in small workshops in England, using highly skilled artisans to fashion the commission with the fullest attention to detail. Philippa personally oversees the production of each item and ensures quality control before the finished piece of jewellery is sent out to the client.
Philippa believes that the packaging and presentation of each work of art is an important part of the client’s experience, and it has besides the added advantage of supporting British craft and heritage artisans. “Traditionally in jewellery houses each piece of jewellery was presented in a bespoke box and this is something that I wanted to emulate, so using a local craftsman I have a box handmade for each commission, ensuring the perfect way to keep a bespoke commission when not being worn.”
